A littte bit about of story and our love for this place
We are a family in love with the sea and Paraty. We’ve lived here for 15 years, with our feet in the sand. During this period we had a chance to explore every little corner of this amazing place. We traded the hussle and chaos of São Paulo for the slow pace and peacefulness of Paraty.
During this voyage of exploring Paraty, we found ourselves enchanted by an old wooden boat, a classic trawler built more than 40 years ago, a vessel so full of charm and history that we decided to buy it and renovate it entirely to its former glory. That’s how DEVAGAR (the name means “Slow”) entered our life.
DEVAGAR is a stable, safe and very comfortable boat, which took us in many trips around the Bay of Paraty and allowed us to discover the culture and geography of this wonderful region. We always have a lot of fun on the boats. After all, nothing beats being at sea, exploring some of the most beautiful beaches and bays in Brazil.
Inspired by our own adventures, we decided to share these experiences with other families, groups of friends, and people who visit Paraty. We would like everyone to slow down, to forget the frenetic pace of the big cities and enjoy a time of total connection with nature. It’s been a pleasure to share this with so many people.
Paraty is a beautiful colonial city by the sea. It is located on the coast of Rio de Janeiro, 245 km (152 miles) from the city of Rio de Janeiro and 310 km (192 miles) from São Paulo. The coastline is dotted with little known bays and beaches, as well as many beautiful islands.
Paraty is a National Historical Heritage Site in Brazil, and a Mixed Heritage Site of Humanity by UNESCO and has received this important title for preserving its numerous natural, cultural and architectural charms.

Here at DEVAGAR, our goal is to provide an experience which is unique, exclusive, and, at the same time, genuine and real. We originally owned only one boat, DEVAGAR, but now our family has grown with DEVAGAR ESPLENDOR, a typical local fishing boat, built by hand and fully adapted for tourism.
Soon we’ll have a third boat, another addition to the family. This new boat is also handmade, full of charm and very comfortable. But for now it’s still a secret, I’ll tell you more abut it very soon.
In order to offer a better and even more pleasant experience, we now have additional services, such as our catering – exquisite meals served aboard the boat and prepared by our wonderful Chef – or a professional photographer to register your unique moments aboard our boats. His drone images are out of this world!
Finally, we have our house in Caborê, a five-minute walk to the Historical Center of Paraty. The house is very well located, in a green, lush, closed-gated community, where you can enjoy a local experience with comfort and security.

DEVAGAR ESPLENDOR is a traditional local fishing boat, built by hand over a period of more than four years by the late Master Arinildo, one of the most respected naval carpenters of Araújo Island, in Paraty. It was built with great care and craftsmanship. It is a spacious and comfortable boat, and also a symbol of the preservation of the local culture of manual boat construction.
DEVAGAR PARATY is the newest member of the family. It is a brand new trawler boat made of fiberglass with wood finishing, and it was built from scratch in Paraty. We took great care of every little detail of the construction in order to assure a pleasant navigating experience in the Bay of Paraty.
It will soon be available for day trip rentals and overnight stays.
